FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Sanjiv Samaroo 2.jpg

Coming from a serene, picturesque village nestled within the gentle hills of Trinidad’s Central Range, I am a self-taught photographer who loves capturing the beauty found in simple moments.

With an M.Sc. in Petroleum Geoscience from Imperial College London, I've spent the last 10 years working in the local oil and gas industry as a petroleum geologist.  I purchased my first camera in 2013, and have not stopped shooting since, with my primary love being nature and landscape photography.  Fascinated by the explosive convergence of technology, theory, practical skill, creative vision and, sometimes, blind luck that it takes to create a compelling photograph, I strive continually to obtain a deeper understanding of the art-form and constantly seek to increase my knowledge in any way possible.

My work has been  on exhibition at the Horizons Art Gallery in 2015 and 2017 as part of the Trinidad and Tobago Photographic Society’s annual competition, where I won the People’s Choice Award in the first year, and my photos have also been displayed at the National Museum and Art Gallery of Trinidad and Tobago in 2018 as part of their “Through my lens” exhibition.   I also won a competition where one of my photos was displayed on the cover of the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ annual conference magazine in 2016.

When not looking for oil or taking photos, I enjoy hiking, fishing, cooking, reading, and playing chess.
